New work / Experiments in Germany

For the past few days I have began experimenting with palm oil and glitter.  This is a step forward from my initial text drawings with palm oil earlier this year. My initial interest with palm oil came from my research of black slaves in the Americas. What were the things that came along with them? what types of fruits, plants, foods? Palm oil was one of them. Palm oil was also used during the sale of slaves. Palm oil used to be applied to their skin to enhance their muscular body or to make them look more healthy. 

My interest in glitter comes along with a reference to gold or value. Along with sugar, slaves were another type of currency of the time. But it does not only speaks about what used to happen to slaves during that time but it also reflects on current brown and black folk and what is our value in modern times.

My skin is gold.
